According to Domain Smalltalk the German company Deutsche Telekom AG has purchased the domain “telecom.com” for a rumored $700,000 USD on January 2nd, 2008. Deutsche Telekom is finally in possession of the two domain names telekom.com (since 2005) and telecom.com.

This deal was indeed very important for the company. The number of the clients who wrongly typed the name with a C is without doubt huge (in German with K). A company like Deutsche Telekom can’t afford to loose potential clients just because of such a little detail. From the point of view of Namestock, we find that this was a good investment in regard to international marketing strategy and expansion.

This deal shows that German companies are highly involved in the international market of domain business, even if such deals are not always made public.
